Guy B. Braden. "Propinquity: An Adams County, Mississippi, Plantation.", Mississippi Journal of History, Vol 25 (1963). pp74-85 Brothers Alexander and Leonard Covington of Prince George's County, MD moved to Adams County, Mississippi around 1810 with their families, slaves and livestock. Leonard Covington had recently been appointed Lt. Col. of the the Light Dragoons at Fort Dearborn, near Natchez. During the War of 1812 Leonard was promoted to Brigadier General and was killed in battle in 1813. Leonard's wife was Rebecca Covington Mackall (abt 1770-1825).

Several of Janes's siblings also moved to Adams County, MS since they married in Natchez: Adams County Mississippi Marriages 1802-1859
